The Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kota Bharu organized a ceremony to present birth certificates to participants of the DNA testing programme held between 28-29 May 2024.
On September 2, 2024, Mrs. Marisa Indramangala, Deputy Consul-General of Thailand in Kota Bharu, presided over the ceremony to present birth certificates to participants of the DNA testing programme, which aimed to assist Thai individuals with incomplete civil registration status. This programme, held between 28-29 May 2024, was a collaborative effort between the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kota Bharu, the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC), and the Central Institute of Forensic Science.
Those who received their birth certificates are scheduled to participate in an activity to obtain their first Thai national ID card on 19 September 2024, at Su-ngai Golok District, Narathiwat Province. This activity is a joint effort among the aforementioned agencies and the Bureau of Registration Administration, Ministry of Interior. After receiving their national ID cards, participants will enjoy fundamental rights as Thai citizens, including access to healthcare services, education in public institutions, and the ability to apply for a passport, which will enable them to reside legally in Malaysia.
This ongoing effort reflects the Royal Thai Consulate-General’s commitment to assisting and resolving the legal status issues of Thai people in the area, so that they can live legally, happily, and with dignity in Malaysia.
