วันที่ 18 พฤษภาคม 2557 สถานกงสุลใหญ่ ณ เมืองโกตาบารู ได้รับการประสานงานจากที่ปรึกษาฝ่ายแรงงาน ประจำสถานเอกอัครราชทูต ณ กรุงกัวลาลัมเปอร์ เพื่อให้ความช่วยเหลือแรงงานไทยที่ตกทุกข์ได้ยาก จำนวน 59 คน ที่ถูกนายหน้าหลอกลวงให้เข้ามาทำงานกับบริษัทก่อสร้างแห่งหนึ่งในเมืองเคอมามาน (Kemaman) รัฐตรังกานู โดยถูกเรียกเก็บค่าหัวรายละ 15,000- 20,000 บาท แต่เมื่อเดินทางมาถึงกลับไม่มีงาน

ให้ทำตามที่บอกไว้ สถานกงสุลใหญ่ ฯ จึงได้ช่วยจัดหารถโดยสารนำคนงานทั้งหมดกลับมายังประเทศไทยผ่านด่านตรวจคนเข้าเมืองสุไหงโก-ลก และได้ประสานงานกับหน่วยราชการที่เกี่ยวข้องของไทยในจังหวัดนราธิวาสเพื่อให้ความช่วยเหลือส่งตัวกลับภูมิลำเนา และดำเนินคดีกับนายหน้าเถื่อนรายนี้ต่อไป

ในการนี้ สถานกงสุลใหญ่ฯ ขอแจ้งเตือนให้แรงงานไทยที่ประสงค์จะเข้ามาทำงานในรัฐตรังกานู ใช้ความรอบคอบในการสมัครงาน และหากเป็นไปได้ก็ขอให้สมัครงานผ่านบริษัทนายหน้าที่ขึ้นทะเบียนไว้กับกระทรวงแรงงานเท่านั้น เพื่อมิให้ตกเป็นเหยื่อของนายหน้าเถื่อนอีก  

On 18 May 2014, the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Kota Bharu assisted 59 Thai workers in returning to Thailand after being deceivingly recruited by a job recruitment agent to come to Kemaman, Terengganu with the promise of guaranteed construction jobs.  The Office of Labour Affairs at the Royal Thai Embassy, Kuala Lumpur has informed the Royal Thai Consulate-General that the Thai workers were collected a processing fee (10,000-20,000 Baht) by the job recruitment agent but were not given any job after arriving in Malaysia.  After coordinating with concerned offices in Thailand to provide assistance to the workers once they arrive in the province of Narathiwat, the Royal Thai Consulate-General arranged transportation to take the workers back to Thailand.  Legal actions will be taken against the job recruitment agent. 

For workers who are seeking job opportunities overseas it is highly recommended that applications be made through job recruitment companies that are registered to the Ministry of Labour to prevent the risk of falling victim to false agents.
