เมื่อวันเสาร์ที่ 13 เมษายน พ.ศ. 2560 ดร. ไพฑูรย์ สงค์แก้ว กงสุลใหญ่ฯ พร้อมนางนวรัตน์ สงค์แก้ว ภรรยา ได้เดินทางไปวัดสุคิรินประชาราม อ. สุคิริน จ.นราธิวาส เพื่อเข้าร่วมงานสงกรานต์ที่วัดดังกล่าว ซึ่งมีนายอนันต์ บุญสำราญ นายอำเภอสุคิริน เป็นประธาน ท่ามกลางชาวไทยพุทธหลายร้อยคนที่มาร่วมงาน ทั้งนี้ ดร. ไพฑูรย์ฯ พบว่ารูปแบบการฉลองสงกรานต์ที่วัดสุคิรินประชารามเหมือนกันกับการฉลองสงกรานต์โดยชาวมาเลเซียเชื้อสายไทยที่วัดสุคนธาราม อ. ตุมปัต รัฐกลันตัน ซึ่งจัดไปเมื่อวันที่ 7 เมษายน 2560 เช่น มีการสรงน้ำพระพุทธรูป การสรงน้ำพระ การรดน้ำขอพรจากผู้เฒ่าผู้แก่ และการเล่นน้ำสงกรานต์สนุกสนานกันเอง เป็นต้น

On Saturday 13 April 2017, Dr. Paitoon Songkaeo, Consul-General, and wife Mrs. Nawarat Songkaeo, went to Wat Su-khirin Phracharam in Su-khirin district of Narathiwat Province to attend the Songkran Festival celebration. Mr. Anant Bunsamran, Chief of Su-khirin district, presided over the function, which drew hundreds of Thai Buddhists in the district.
The Consul-General's noticed that forms of the celebration in the festival at this Thai temple are the same as the ones observed by the Malaysians of Thai origin at Wat Sukhontaram in Tumpat district of Kelantan State, which was held on 7 April 2017, such as the ceremonial bathing of the Buddha statute, and Buddhist monks, the respectfully pouring of water on the hand the old, as well the the throwing of water among the participants for fun and for the relief from heat.
